The impact of new technologies at work

New technologies have experienced an exceptional boom since the beginning of the 21st century. We’ve gone from floppy disks to the cloud. From flip phones to smartphones. From cathode ray televisions to flat screens. The world of work has not escaped this famous transformation either!

Impact on working conditions and tools

These new technologies have therefore developed strongly in the work environment. The first work tool affected by these changes is the computer. For several years, the computer has been a tool strongly present in companies of all types. It is as much present in offices as in factories and even in old trades like agriculture. Different programs have been developed to answer the various problems of the working world. Computers have, little by little, replaced paper and pencil at work. They make it possible to optimize the tasks to be carried out. Over time, these computers have become more refined and efficient, allowing employees to be more and more effective.

This video can explain it:

Each department of a company has experienced a digitalization of its functions. This has implied a dematerialization of documents and work tools. For example, all contracts are now dematerialized and stored on the cloud. Companies use mailboxes and instant messaging services to exchange between each collaborator. Video conferencing is possible, which was not possible even 15 years ago. The computer is a technology that has become an everyday tool at work.

What future for digital technology?

Innovation at the service of work: It is interesting to ask how digital technology will continue to impact the labor market. If today’s professional networks and production tools are constantly improving and optimizing, will this continue indefinitely?

New technologies have been evolving for more than 20 years, so it seems usual to see innovative technologies land in the hands of the general public every year. But will this effect fade with time? It is important to understand that innovation is not infinite and that technology will eventually reach its limit. However, it is possible that it will reinvent itself to create new tools and new ways of working again and again. Talking about smartphones or flat TVs still sounded futuristic 20 years ago. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that this feeling about current technologies will be the same in the next 20 years. Innovation is not a linear concept defined in time. It is carried out according to the experiments and tests carried out by teams of researchers. The goal is to optimize daily life, both at home and at work.
